ELLIE TABARAIE & ALI RAVANPAY finally tied the knot at a lavish wedding fit for royalty ..... persian royalty, that is. their spectacular wedding event was held at the stunning WESTIN ST. FRANCIS HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO high above the clouds overlooking a panoramic view of san francisco spanning from the golden gate bridge to the bay bridge. and while mother nature rained spring showers, nothing was going to dampen the brightest smiles and the enthusiastic elan of all who attended this fabulous couple's special day. their families and closest friends were as charming, beautiful, sophisticated and gracious as they were, and every aspect of their wedding was all a labor of love.

it was a gorgeous persian wedding ceremony officiated by DR. MEHRI PIROOZ, over a stunning "sofreh-ye aghd" elaborately decorated by LILLY AKBARPOUR of ELEGANT WEDDING DECOR (www.elegantweddingdecor.com). traditionally, the sofreh is set on the floor facing east, the direction of sunrise (light). the arrival of guests who are to be witnesses to the marriage, initiates the wedding ceremony. the spread was made of a luxurious fabric such as "termeh" (cashmere: a rich gold embroidered fabric). the mirror (of fate) and two candelabras represent the bride & groom's brightness in their future, with light and fire. a tray of seven multi-colored herbs and spices are displayed to guard the couple and their lives together against evil. other food specialties such as baked flatbread, baklava, chickpea-flour cookies, honey roasted almonds, decorated "faberge-like" eggs, almonds, walnuts & hazelnuts in the shell symbolized prosperity for the feasts and fertility respectively. these delectables were also shared with the guests after the ceremony, to bring the new couple happiness & prosperity. sugar cones they called the "kalleh ghand" made out of hardened sugar was used to grind together above the bride & groom's head over a silk scarf held by their designated female relatives, showering them in sugar symbolizing sweetness & happiness, followed by a cup of honey where they dipped their pinky finger in the cup and fed each other, to sweeten their new life together. then there was the holy book displayed amongst the spread to symbolize god's blessing for the couple.

the beautiful floral design was majestically created by LAURA LITTLE of FLORAMOR STUDIOS (www.floramorstudios.com). hair & make-up by BE PHILAVONG of CHANEL. glitzy wedding stationery, escort cards and table tent cards glammed by SHERYL BRACKEN of PAPER MOXIE (www.papermoxie.com). and while i haven't gotten the final images of this wedding, i took these photos below. but left the amazing images brought to life by photographer PAULA GLOISTEIN (www.paulagloistein.com) and videography captured by the fabulous KRISTEN of BLISS VIDEO PRODUCTIONS (www.blissvideoproductions.com). guests were treated with a palette of luscious hors d'oeuvres, and a sensational 5-course dinner menu created by TRACY GROVE, catering manager and prepared by their culinary genius, THOMAS RIMPEL, chef de cuisine with THE WESTIN ST. FRANCIS HOTEL (www.westinstfrancis.com). everyone toasted the wedding couple with MOET WHITE STAR CHAMPAGNE, and later sweetened them up with an array of mouth watering mignardises and french pastries "yummily" prepared by the hotel's executive pastry chef, JEAN FRANCOIS HOUDRE, paired with an espresso bar provided by BILL CHOY of TRAVELLIN' JOE ESPRESSO. the jewel crown of the evening that was an awe-inspiring work of art was the wedding cake, amazingly designed by SHIN MIN LI of I DREAM OF CAKE (www.idreamofcake.com) flanked by FLORAMOR STUDIOS' brass tree of hanging pomendors of roses and glittery butterflies, dripping with crystal beads. after the bride & groom cut the cake, and toasted with their KATE SPADE CHAMPAGNE FLUTES, they invited all guests to what seemed like an endless good time of hip-shaking persian dance music and entertainment provided by DJ TEYMOUR.

phuong is a registered nurse for a liver, kidney & pancreas transplant unit at california pacific medical center, while garrett is a liver transplant surgeon for the same hospital - how convenient! they've known each other a little over a year and knew it was love at first site. here's an excerpt from garrett on phuong -

" From the moment I met Phuong, I wanted her to know everything about me. This may sound strange, but I am by nature a cautious person, and don't typically reveal personal things about myself, even to those close to me. Right from the beginning, I felt very comfortable with her, and found that I could tell her things I haven't told anyone else. I could tell this was happening, that it was a striking difference from my usual behavior, and that Phuong was special.As for the special moment, we had been dating about 2 months, and I was in Japan on a vacation with friends. We talked everyday, and one day she told me that she was very happy with me and said "if you asked me to marry you today, I would say yes". It took everything I had NOT to propose to her over the phone from Japan, but I knew that I felt the same, and I could not wait until I got back from that trip to propose to her in person.I don't know how difficult life's obstacles will be, but I know that I have chosen to approach them with the best person I have ever met, and I think that gives me a pretty good head start. PHUONG BUI & GARRETT HISATAKE put on the glitz at the ritz, with a show-stopping wedding that every bride (& groom) ever dreamed of. and for them, it was everything and so much more. a romantically candle-lit wedding ceremony held at the terrace courtyard began with a sentimental serenade of their favorite song "whenever, wherever, whatever" (by maxwell) sung by their dearest friend LYNUS ODOM-HICKEY accompanied by guitarist GLENN STALLER. the groom looked ravishing with tuxedo from SAKS FIFTH AVENUE (www.saksfifthavenue.com) while the bride was radiantly glowing with hair & make-up masterfully beautified by GISELLE PHAN (www.mimosasalon.com). she wore a sensational wedding gown made by CHRISTOS (www.christosbridal.com) of an ivory re-embroidered alencon lace, hour glass silhouette with triple tier silk organza outlining a strapless bodice and encircling the hemline, as she gracefully walked down the aisle. the ceremony was flanked by a display of embracing candle walls as they said their "i do's" officiated by friend & confidant, STEPHANIE BECK. regardless of the weather, mother nature would never dampen the celebration as the party continued in the terrace room where catering manager MARIANNE ARATA of THE RITZ-CARLTON SAN FRANCISCO (www.ritzcarlton.com) and their very own executive chef KALEO ADAMS offered delectable hors d'oeuvres and a mouthwatering 4-course dinner fit for royalty. the dining room glistened with a sea of candles glittering around stunning orchid florals created by JON & LINNAE ASIEL GOMEZ of ASIEL DESIGN (www.asieldesign.com). tables were draped in black & white damask linens with shimmering lime-olive green table runners, "bling" crystal votives and amber stemware from HARTMANN STUDIOS (www.hartmannstudios.com). clever river stones with the guest's assigned seats, were calligraphied by KATHRYN KALABOKES, while letterpress table cards and dinner menus from WWW.WHITEAISLE.COM graced each placesetting. ambient lighting and DJ entertainment provided by BRANDON CRUZ of ELLE MUSIC & EVENTS (www.elle-music.com) set the mood for non-stop dancing by all. but wait ... there's still the wedding cake yet to have. can't you just taste it? it was a luscious 3-tiered stacked round cake of chocolate with mascarpone cream cheese and mousse filling wrapped in white chocolate fondant, and trimmed with black lace fabric around each tier to match the floral centerpiece vases, as well as the damask patterned tables. this masterpiece was made by none other than the king of cakes, CHEF BALA SUBRAHMANYAM of THE CAKEMAKER (www.cakemaker.net) - formerly the executive pastry chef at the cliff house in san francisco. and i had set it atop 30 champagne flutes each filled with gardenias and wreathed with candles to give an effect of the cake floating on fire - damn i'm good!!!! the evening's festivities were all captured on film by videographer extraordinaire, DAVE ETHRIDGE and his talented son BRIAN ETHRIDGE of A VIDEO REFLECTION (www.avideoreflection.net). while JEN MOLANDER of JEN MOLANDER PHOTOGRAPHY (www.jenmolander.com) immortalized wedding images that they will long remember (more photos to follow). while we wait for these fabulous images to complete, my event photographer DENNIS MENENDEZ of DENNIS M PHOTOGRAPHY (www.dennismphotography.com) beautifully preserved these special moments shown below .... mi cubanito, you rocked !!!

JAN CHUA & NIK BAER tied the knot twice this year ... how? a private ceremony took place last april, but the real party was last 08-08-08 with their families and closest of friends. their magical ceremony and reception were both held at a magnificent civil war period mansion called JEFFERSON STREET MANSION (http://www.jeffersonstreetmansion.com/) in the historic benicia arsenal, majestically renovated and preserved back to its stylish elegance by its owner/architect, J. REED ROBBINS. a sumptuous feast was catered by MARKET HALL CATERERS (http://www.markethallfoods.com/). their wedding cake was definitely a showstopper, masterfully created by the talented GABBY FEUERSINGER of CAKE COQUETTE (http://www.cakecoquette.com/) - white cake soaked in rum syrup with raspberry jam, fresh strawberries and custard cream; another tier with hazelnut cake with chocolate and hazelnut filling, decorated with gold leaf and clusters of exotic orchids ..... to die for!!! ceremony music bySHERRY LEWIS with ELEGANT TOUCH OF STRINGS thru ELLE MUSIC & EVENTS (http://www.elle-music.com/) who serenaded their guests in the west lawn while DJ entertainment by CEDRIC NODADO rocked the house in the courtyard's tented area. the florals were lush and gorgeous, beautifully designed by CATHY BUNTAS. and these stunning images that captured their special moments were taken by the fabulous team of ARIF HUSSAIN and COREY MILLER with PERSPECTA (http://www.perspectaphoto.com/). at the wedding reception, PERSPECTA also brought in a photo booth where everyone had a chance to be photographed with the bride & groom - and i meant a "life-size" blown-up photo of the bride & groom. it was crazy fun!!! thank you NIK & JAN - it was truly a memorable day!

here's a match made in heaven ... literally! DAVID & LIZ were introduced by their doctor and gave them the ultimate prescription ... L'AMOUR!!!! the week of the wedding was full of activities for all their guests who traveled from afar. they hosted their rehearsal dinner at their beautiful home at incline village where renowned floral event designer LAURA LITTLE of FLORAMOR STUDIOS (http://www.floramorstudios.com/) stunningly transformed their living room into an exotic zen garden. guests were awe-inspired by the serenade of koto guitar music by mother & son team, SHIRLEY & BRIAN WONG (http://www.elle-music.com/) as they sat down to a tablescape design courtesy of CLASSIC PARTY RENTALS (http://www.classicpartyrentals.com/). letterpress menu stationery created by ESZTER RABIN of EMMA ROSE PAPERY (http://www.emmarosepapery.com/) gracefully introduced a 6-course asian-inspired dinner menu catered by BLUE ONION CATERING (www.blueonion.com/catering), ending with chocolate-dipped fortune cookies that provided clues for what's to come for a fabulous wedding weekend. guests stayed at the luxurious HYATT REGENCY LAKE TAHOE (http://www.hyatt.com/), and were provided with a myriad of activities from action watersports with waverunners, jetskis, kayaking and parasailing to hiking and horseback riding. day of the wedding, guests were treated on a sail aboard a yacht that took them from the hotel to THUNDERBIRD LODGE (http://www.thunderbirdlodge.org/) where the reception took place. the venue was a castle by the lake, previously owned by eccentric millionaire george whitell who hosted many celebrity parties during the swing era - thus, the theme of the wedding! while onboard at the hyatt, guests were entertained by andrew sisters look-a-likes of a band called SWING SISTERS (http://www.elle-music.com/). when they disembarked, they toured the castle until the ceremony began at the lawn, overlooking the lake. the ceremony was unbelievably remarkable, officiated by their dear friend AMALYA POMERANTZ - so spiritual ... so memorable, i was so moved. david was a dashing debonaire in his tuxedo and fedora hat. liz's hair & make-up was beautifully done by several talented hair & make-up artists such as WALLETT LUBURICH (http://www.wallettweddings.com/), BRANDY MYERS and ASHLEY NEEDHAM. and when she walked down the aisle, she just glowed and lavished in beauty. during the ceremonial rites, both david & liz were showered with so much love, support and affection by all who witnessed this incredible matrimony. even i choked during the presentation of flowers to both mothers . cocktails & hors d'oeuvres followed with a sumptuous dinner at the lighthouse room set right above lake tahoe's magnificent panorama until dusk. tablescape designs were beautifully executed with design rentals from HARTMANN STUDIOS (http://www.hartmannstudios.com/) and an abundance of luscious florals by FLORAMOR STUDIOS. the children had their own "kids lounge" where they were entertained by a card magician, caricaturist & juggler arranged by KEVIN MADDEN of MUSIC & MAGIC (http://www.musicandmagic.com/) and a photo booth by J. MOSES CAESER of FOTOMIO (http://www.fotomio.com/) - even the adults were "kids at heart" joining the rest of the kids in the room. meanwhile, the rest of the adults revelled in the OLD LODGE ROOM for cake, dessert and dancing, set with sexy lounge vignettes to give the venue a club atmosphere. david & liz, gave everyone a dramatic grand entry as they proceeded to do their first dance choreographed by CYNTHIA GLINKA (http://www.cynthiaglinka.com/). their first dance was incredibly amazing that the crowd went wild when they wowed everyone as they lit the dancefloor - they were cheering & applausing so loud, they wanted more. a tough act to follow, cynthia glinka herself along with her dance partner, A.C.GRIFFING gave their guests a dance demonstration which followed with swing dance lessons for everyone of all ages. they all danced the night away to KEITH JOHNSON & THE ALL STARS (http://www.elle-music.com/) who were workin' the crowd, shakin' & groovin' to the tunes. the evening concluded with the cutting of the wedding cake delectably designed by CHEF JOHANNA LASSITER-CURTIS. and as guests departed, yummy sugar cookies baked by LEENA HUNG taken from a recipe from david's grandmother, NANA, offered sweet endings to a magical evening. but wait ... the party's not over yet. everyone was shuttled by RENO/TAHOE LIMOUSINE SERVICE (http://www.renotahoelimo.com/) over to david & liz's home for an "after-glow" reception. the following day, they hosted a post-wedding brunch in their very backyard gorgeously set with scattered seating in bold & beautiful linens and bamboo chairs by HARTMANN STUDIOS, complemented by blossoming florals by FLORAMOR STUDIOS, surrounded amongst towering redwood trees on a clear, sunny day. guests savored culinary delights again catered by BLUE ONION CATERING while entertained by wonderful flamenco guitar strummed by the incredible ERIC SYMONS (http://www.elle-music.com/). i want to give special kudos to my associate, FRANCISCO MAZZINI for doing a stellar job well done - awesome dude! and capturing these memories on moving film was the incomparable JUSTIN FONE of JUSTIN FONE PRODUCTIONS (http://www.justinfone.com/), while stunning photo images were artistically montaged by the sensational MELISSA MERMIN LOVE STORIES (http://www.melissamermin.com/) - a picturesque love story that will be long remembered ... thanks, melissa!!! finally, to DAVID & LIZ - my sincerest and heartfelt thanks for giving me this opportunity to be a part of your very special day, your lives, your families & friends, and most importantly, our longlasting friendship.

the country never looked better - especially for JENNIFER YU & SEAN BURNS' wedding. HIDDEN VILLA (http://www.hiddenvilla.org/) was literally a hidden gem nestled in the valleys of los altos hills. and as a child, jennifer frequently visited nature's little paradise which later in life she chose as the glorious sanctuary for her & sean's special day. everything about their wedding was a labor of love - from the wedding rings and wedding arch both designed & made by the groom, to the delectably delicious wedding cake made with fresh eggs from their own farm grown chickens by jennifer's loving mom, connie young yu.
